LEXINGTON (CBS) – How are the dry conditions affecting local farmers?
Scott Wilson, of Wilson Farm in Lexington, says the hot, dry conditions are perfect for growing crops.
“It’s awesome,” he says. “It’s better to have to add water than to take water away. It’s impossible to have to take water away. It’s fairly easy to add water.”
He says most of the farms have irrigation, and have substantial amounts of water in their systems so they will be okay.
“When you have a lot of water and rain over a week or every five days, it can affect things,” he says. “That’s when you get a lot of disease and blight that affects plants negatively.”
“We don’t want huge thunderstorms that will just run off,” Wilson explains. “A soaking rain is what we call it. An eight hour rain, an easy rain that soaks into the ground would be great for everybody.”
